The heavy chemicals sector is a great responsibility – towards people, the natural environment and the future of the planet as a whole. Sustainable development and responsible business are of strategic importance to the Grupa Azoty Group. Their oversight rests with the President of the Management Board and individual Management Board members within their respective areas of responsibility. As the pursuit of sustainable development spans all areas of the Group’s activities, employees from various departments and levels of the organisation are involved in the process.

Grupa Azoty is a signatory of the partnership for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our activities support the following goals:

Pillar 1. Product and production

Our priority: We guarantee efficient, innovative and environmentally-friendly production by:

  • ensuring high product quality;
  • investing in research and looking for innovative technological solutions, extending the product value chain (chemicals and plastics);
  • enhancing the environmental efficiency and cost efficiency of the processes (reduction of emissions and energy and water consumption);
  • ensuring safe production, transport and storage;
  • ensuring staff safety; 
  • contributing to the development of circular economy.

Zero hunger: we are aware that the agriculture and food sector plays a crucial role in combatting poverty. Our goal is to increase food production efficiency and volumes, sustain ecosystems, adapt to climate change, and – with our products – gradually improve soil and land quality.

Climate change measures: climate change is felt in every country, across all continents. Excessive greenhouse gas emissions require a coordinated effort and solutions developed at international levels. We want to take joint action to counteract these adverse changes, reducing our environmental footprint.

Clean water and sanitation: in our operations we seek to significantly increase water use efficiency to help solve the problem of water scarcity.

Innovation, industry and infrastructure:  with efforts to further this objective underpinned by technological progress. Without technology advances and innovation, the progress of industrialisation will not be possible, and we want to make our contribution to scientific research, raising the technological level of the industrial sector.

Pillar 2. People and relationships

Our priority: We enhance our positive impact on the social and economic environment by:

  • promoting the development of sustainable precision agriculture and farmer education;
  • improving customer relations;
  • supporting the social and economic development of towns, cities and regions in our main facility locations;
  • engaging in sponsorships, community outreach initiatives and community dialogue;
  • developing the intellectual capital of our current and future employees, who represent our immediate social environment in our main facility locations.

Responsible consumption and production: balanced consumption and production require a systematic approach and cooperation between various actors along the supply chain, from manufacturers to consumers. Therefore, we run a number of training events at the Grupa Azoty Group, e.g. for farmers.

Economic growth and decent work: we are furthering this goal by supporting the socio-economic development of cities and regions at the main locations of our plants.

Quality education: we aim to increase the number of young people and adults who have relevant skills (including technical and vocational skills) for employment, finding fair jobs, and entrepreneurship.

Pillar 3. Good governance

Our priority: We strive for operational excellence and manage risks by:

  • building good governance and ensuring compliance;
  • creating a coherent organisational culture based on a system of values and a code of ethics; 
  • enhancing employee engagement and innovativeness;
  • managing supply chain responsibility;
  • ensuring cybersecurity;
  • participating in ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) reviews and ESG initiatives;
  • tracking of key indicators and integrated reporting in line with widely recognised standards and guidance.
