Ensuring occupational safety is a top priority for Grupa Azoty. All our companies have comprehensive occupational health and safety management systems in place. Safety management is based on ISO 45001, which places a strong emphasis on: 

  • OHS risk assessment;
  • preventive health care and prevention of accidents; 
  • collecting and using information on incidents other than accidents;
  • enabling all stakeholders to carry out safety improvement measures, including employees and social partners, in a consultative and participative process.

We at Grupa Azoty strive to ensure that all employees, especially those in blue-collar positions, are aware of the risks posed by working in the chemical industry. Therefore, each of our companies strictly complies with the obligation to provide OHS training. The services responsible for occupational safety carry out regular staff training. Every new hire participates in comprehensive training before starting their job to become aware of all safety considerations and learn about the risks associated with their job and the protection measures in place.


OHS training is provided not only to new employees. Persons who have been working at the Grupa Azoty Group for a longer time are regularly invited to refresher trainings on the applicable rules and new safety improvement solutions.

Grupa Azoty S.A.:

  • Grupa Azoty S.A. has systemic safety solutions in place based on legislation, long-term experience and PN 18001 and OHSAS 18001 standards, which were implemented in 2011. In 2019, a new OHS management standard conforming to ISO 45001 was formally introduced. 
  • The performance of the systems is regularly evaluated in external audits, and conformity to standards is confirmed by relevant certificates. An external audit carried out by DNV in 2020 was successful. 
  • The safety system includes:
    • risk assessment; 
    • an extensive system of non-compliance control and response; 
    • active participation of employees (risk reporting, social labour inspection);
    • teams (committees) in place, including the OHS Committee, to evaluate projects and place new plants in service; 
    • compliance with all necessary legal requirements;
    • introduction of the STOP™ Safety Training Observation Programme to integrate safe behaviours and working conditions into the corporate culture;
    • regular OHS training for employees,a transparent and clear procedure for third parties working on the premises of Grupa Azoty S.A.

Grupa Azoty Kędzierzyn:

  • The safety management system is based on ISO 45001 and covers all activities, employees, and workplaces. 
  • As a result of upgrading and automation of manufacturing and loading installations, no instances of exceeded energy expenditure limits or excessive hazardous exposures are recorded at the company’s facilities.
  • Regular OHS training is provided to employees. Grupa Azoty Kędzierzyn has a 5S system in place, which helps create and maintain an ergonomic, clean, and safe workplace.
  • The STOP™ Safety Training Observation Programme is in place.
  • A ‘company’ ambulance with a rescue team on board is available to employees on a 24/7 basis.
  • The company’s key facilities are equipped with 26 portable defibrillators. 
  • A general obligation to wear eye protection has also been introduced for all employees and visitors at the production facilities. 
  • Inspections are carried out jointly with officers from the District Police Headquarters, Road Traffic Department in Kędzierzyn-Koźle to verify compliance with road traffic regulations and perform sobriety checks.

Grupa Azoty Puławy:

  • Grupa Azoty Puławy has an OHS management system conforming to ISO 45001 in place.
  • Current working conditions are inspected by different authorities, including the Fire Control and Technical Committee and the OHS Committee.
  • Regular OHS training is provided to employees.
  • The STOP™ Safety Training Observation Programme is in place.
  • The integrated management system is subject to internal audits and occupational exposures are measured.
  • The machinery is undergoing a gradual upgrade. 
  • Occupational health and safety enhancements are added on an ongoing basis as part of improvement projects. 

Grupa Azoty Police:

  • Grupa Azoty Police has implemented an occupational health and safety management system conforming to ISO 45001. 
  • Investments and upgrades are carried out on almost all production units in order to minimise hazards and nuisance and to improve OHS conditions. 
  • Regular OHS training is provided to employees. 
  • System upgrades include successive implementations of advanced process control techniques based on computer systems enabling operators to better control, monitor and respond to disruptions. 
  • The company has been awarded the Gold Card of Safe Work Leader again.
  • The STOP™ Safety Training Observation Programme is in place. 
BEST PRACTICE

We provide our employees with access to a network of private medical facilities. Regular packages include GP and specialist appointments, specialist examinations and diagnostics. A group medical package is available, covering employees together with their family members.

There were no work-related fatal accidents or occupational diseases among employees of the Grupa Azoty Group in 2020. All accidents were classified as minor accidents according to the legislative definition.
